Music

Director of Music Ministry

Manuela Blankinship is an accomplished pianist and block flautist.  In addition, she plays the cello as well as the organ.  She provides the music for our 10 a.m. Sunday service and directs the choir.

Choir

The spine of our music ministry is made up by the choir.  Several of our choristers have extensive experience singing in other area choirs and play musical instruments as well.

No matter whether you are an experienced singer or completely new to singing, whether you read music or not, we would love for you to give singing in our choir a try!

We meet every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. for our regular rehearsals.

Church Organ

Ensembles

Joining our music ministry will give you a chance to perform as soloists, in duets or trios if you choose to.  This is a great opportunity for singers to gain experience performing in front of a supportive and appreciative audience.

Instrumentalists

Besides vocalists, we are able to use the pipe organ, trumpet, hammer dulcimer, piano, harpsichord, cello, guitar, hand bells, and a variety of recorders to enrich our music program.  We believe in inviting all members of the congregation to contribute musically.  We welcome your musical contributions, whether once a year or once a week!

Concerts and Visiting Performers

In 2024 we hosted an early music concert featuring 5 different instrumental groups and choirs as well as an organ concert featuring pieces by female contemporary composers.  We are planning on welcoming back the Aeolian Chorale for a concert in late summer of 2025.

We regularly offer opportunities for short term participation in musical activities.  If you have any ideas or would like to collaborate with us on similar projects, please contact us.

Summer Concert Series

Do you enjoy sitting on a warm summer evening drinking a favorite beverage, or having a picnic, while listening to music? The Christ Church Summer Concert Series is here to cater to you.

We try to have 2-4 free concerts on our South Lawn that are open to anyone in the neighborhood. We have had Singer Songwriters, Chicago Blues, Folk Singers, Arabic Music, and much more. The concerts are usually about an hour and a half. Bring a chair or blanket and make yourself comfortable. In the event of bad weather, we do move the concerts into the Sanctuary so we don’t have to miss the music.

Watch our video sign for announcements of upcoming concerts.

Listening Sessions

Do you have a love of music? Christ Church does, both in varied music during our services and in sharing our wider musical interests in our Listening Group.

The Listening Group gathers on the Second Monday of each month, roughly from September to May, to enjoy some refreshments and to share music that is important to us.

This can be in a career retrospective of a favorite performer or composer, or an overview of a style of music. We have reviewed Jazz, Classical, Rock, Folk, Blues, and combinations thereof. Whether you want to personally present something, or just come and hear music that has touched that night’s presenter, you are welcome to share some time with us.
